The United Way of Staunton, Augusta County and Waynesboro recognize structural racism, socioeconomic status, ethnic discrimination and other forms of oppression have contributed to racial disparities that have existed in the past and persist in the present. We acknowledge those inequities are the result of policies and practices that work to marginalize entire populations of people. We unequivocally denounce racism/ethnic discrimination/socioeconomic discrimination because it undermines the well-being and vitality of our communities. Our United Way Network seeks to dismantle disparities and strives to engage residents and community members, especially those whose voices have traditionally been marginalized, in the shared work of fortifying equity and empowerment. We work with public and private partners to co-create solutions that ensure everyone has the resources, support, opportunities and networks they need to thrive. We commit to leveraging all of our assets (e.g., convening, strategic investments, awareness building, advocacy) to create more equitable communities.

EQUITY, DIVERSITY, AND INCLUSION STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLE

The United Way of Staunton, Augusta County and Waynesboro (UWSAW) strives to support the health, education, and financial stability of every person in our community. UWSAW acknowledges inequities in socioeconomic status, race and ethnicity work to marginalize entire populations of people. Our efforts are committed to building an organization and community which are sustainable, resilient, and inclusive for everyone.

We value the visible and invisible qualities that make each person who they are.

We welcome every person and the unique perspective and experience they contribute to advance our mission for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in our community.

We believe that each UWSAW community member, donor, volunteer, advocate, and employee must have equal access to helping to solve community problems.

We work with public and private partners to co-create solutions that ensure everyone has the resources, support, opportunities and networks they need to thrive.

We strive to dismantle disparities and include equity, diversity, and inclusion practices in every aspect of our daily work within our organization and our community.

We oppose all forms of racism and ethnic discrimination.

We commit to embracing equity, diversity, and inclusion for and with every person to create more equitable communities.
